If only he knew how the world hath observed him
If only he knew what an impact he made
If only he knew how his parting hath served him
The one, so beloved, now his ashes are laid
At home and abroad. The tributes kept coming
The accolades, honours, the memories and more
This dear man departed! Adieu, life once started
Imprints of his legacy remain on this shore
If only he knew how his gentle words spoken
Oft fell on deaf ears, but now echo above
Now he is departed. May his words be a token
Of his spirit of giving, enshrouded in Love.

Written by Eileen Fagan with loving gratitude to all who honoured John by attending his visitation and funeral mass on 5th October 2013. A sincere thanks to all who sent cards, letters and posted tributes to John on the internet.
