This article infuriates me! As a mother of now an adult with disabilities I had to fight for the meagre supports my son received. It’s sad to admit but people with disabilities are not a target group during elections…. typically a lower economical group ,party platforms don’t seem to care about. Yet they make up a significant number of votes… not just the individuals but the families and friends that support them. I often advise people to fight for every bit of support and help they can get. It should not have to come to that. These individuals deserve respect and a say in party platforms. Year after year I hear about budget cuts, service reductions in an already strained level of services. This group is often forgotten about and rely upon a strong body of support to push policy makers to help with making sure they vote accordingly. Hopefully, with continued advocacy this will happen… the sooner the better.
