skp10172035

CARLETON PLACE, Ont. — Police in eastern Ontario say a homicide suspect who was the subject of a public warning earlier in the day is now in custody.

Provincial police spokesman Bill Dickson says 30-year-old Shane Sabourin was arrested without incident at a home in Carleton Place, Ont., just east of Ottawa, at around 1 p.m.

Police had previously issued a public caution about Sabourin, identifying him as a suspect in a fatal stabbing at a Carleton Place motel.

The stabbing victim, whose name has not been released, died in hospital shortly after the Wednesday morning incident.

Dickson says charges against Sabourin are expected to be laid later in the day.

He says police received several tips during their search for the suspect and thanked the public for their co-operation with the investigation.
