When hosting an event, having memorable food and drink to impress your guests is at the top of every great event planner’s to-do list. Your goal is to delight and surprise, to nourish and excite, and to have the food communicate the special nature of the gathering.

At Delta Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront, event- and conference-planners alike have lots of options to choose from, says Lindsey Onishenko, Catering Sales Executive. The hotel is a popular venue for all manner of social functions, from weddings, showers and celebrations of life to dinner galas and holiday events and gatherings.

“Our Executive Chef has curated an extensive catering package ranging from breakfast, lunch and dinner to receptions and everything in between,” she says. The team is happy to work with customers to build a custom menu, if desired.

“Our culinary team is made up of associates from around the world and their talents are showcased in our offerings,” says Lindsey.

Her group provides catering to all of the events hosted in the conference centre, regardless of size, and features premium products and ingredients, tapping into the local market to support local vendors.

Guests with food allergies are welcome and will be looked after with care. “We aim to ensure that everyone attending an event can safely dine without worry or concern. As the point of contact between the customer and the operations team, it is my job to inquire about food allergies and dietary restrictions and ensure that information is relayed to the culinary and banquet teams. Our banquet service team takes each case and person into consideration when service begins.”

The conference centre has over 10,000 sq ft of meeting space, including the 5,208 sq ft Algoma Ballroom, which can host up to 450 guests reception-style. The hotel also has an executive boardroom and several other banquet rooms that can be divided using airwalls.

“With the addition of wind screens, heaters and a roof on our outdoor waterfront Fluid Boardwalk Patio + Grill, we would love the chance to entertain in this area during our off season,” she adds.

The Algoma Ballroom recently received an audio visual upgrade; it now includes three brand-new, ceiling-mounted laser projectors and screens, which can run simultaneously or individually. All of their conference centre spaces can be outfitted with a projector, screen, Bose Bluetooth speaker and microphone, so every event can include a virtual component or presentation. The conference centre Wi-Fi is complimentary for all individuals attending an event and uses a secure network and password.

The Delta Hotel’s unique advantages

The Delta Hotel boasts a spectacular location on the banks of St. Mary’s River and is the city’s only waterfront hotel and conference centre.

“The front lawn area is a beautifully maintained space where we also host outdoor wedding ceremonies,” says Lindsey. “Wedding guests benefit from the shaded area under the trees, which can be easily accessed from the boardwalk.” The pool patio is another great option for ceremonies, promising a picturesque backdrop.

The team welcomes smudging in the conference centre rooms and sacred fires in a special area of the front lawn, with plenty of space to include a tee pee.

Planning a gathering at a location like this checks many boxes.

“Having a hotel attached to the conference centre is a key selling feature to groups who anticipate out-of-town guests or who want to eliminate the need for travel. Waking up refreshed and being able to come downstairs from their hotel room is a convenient way to start the day,” says Lindsey. “The fitness centre on-site also allows guests to maintain their regular fitness routine when travelling.”

As a full-service hotel, they can offer a meal in the conference centre at any time.

The hotel offers two all-day meeting packages custom-designed to include food and beverage, room rental and audio visual equipment. Their all-inclusive wedding package includes host bar, cocktail reception, dinner and late night offering.

Take advantage of group booking rates on 10 or more guestrooms per night. These rates are also available to groups that do not include a meeting or event on-site, such as a wedding or bus tour. In late September/early October, for example, the hotel hosts hundreds of visitors who travel to Sault Ste. Marie to experience the incredible Agawa Canyon Tour Train.

“Perhaps the biggest advantage we have is the fact that guests can get ready in their hotel room prior to their event, come down to the conference centre and enjoy their event, then head up to their hotel room for a restful night’s sleep. Eliminating the need to travel makes the experience a lot less stressful,” says Lindsey.

Guests who stay overnight can also enjoy some down time outdoors, taking a walk, running or biking along the scenic Hub Trail.
