The 730-foot American Mariner freighter entered the Poe Lock just after 3 a.m. on Thursday, carrying 26,163 tons of wheat, wrapping up the 2024/2025 navigation season at the Soo Locks.
It exited around 30 minutes later on its way to Buffalo, NY.
The Soo Locks will be closed for winter maintenance until March 25.
According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, during the 10-month navigation season, ships carried about 68-million tons of cargo through the Soo Locks, energizing the nation's economy.
For the next 10 weeks, crews at the locks will be in one of their busiest seasons as they complete a hefty list of maintenance tasks to ensure the locks continue to operate safely and efficiently for years to come.
