One person is being accused of trying to cash a stolen cheque.
A 911 caller reported a cheque had been stolen from a residence at around 5 p.m on March 12.
Police were told a suspect was attempting to cash the cheque in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road.
“An investigation revealed the accused was in possession of a cheque which had been stolen from the 0-100 block of Gravelle Street, forged an endorsement signature, and attempted to cash it for $2,755,” said Sault Ste. Marie Police in a news release.
A warrant was issued and a suspect was arrested Wednesday.
Dustin Motruk, 39, has been charged with:
- Fraud – Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000
- Cause or Attempt to Use Forged Document
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
