Magnitude 3.3 earthquake felt in Montreal early Friday morning

MONTREAL — Earthquakes Canada has reported a magnitude 3.3 earthquake that was lightly felt on the island of Montreal early this morning.

The agency says the epicentre of the earthquake was about 15 kilometres northeast of Montreal at a depth of 12 kilometres.

Apart from chatter on social media, neither Montreal police or Quebec provincial police reported any calls to emergency services.

The quake, which struck at 3:22 a.m., was the seventh in Quebec since the beginning of the year, but the first in an urban area.
