Carmela Maria Spina, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully at Sault Area Hospital on March 20, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on October 15, 1948, Carmela's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship.
Carmela was the cherished wife of Santo, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering companionship. She was a devoted mother to Gino (Maureen), Joe, and John (Brianne), and a doting Nona to Anthony, Isabelle, Drew, and Leo. Her role as a matriarch was filled with warmth and joy, and she nurtured her family with a gentle strength that will be deeply missed.
The daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria Niro, and sister to the late Pat Niro, Carmela's legacy is carried on through her loving family. Loving sister-in-law to Joe (Anita) and Frank (late Christine). She was a beloved aunt to Sonny, Sherri, Ida, Tony, Peter, Katrina, Rosemary, Anna, and the late Patricia. Her special cousins Silvana, Concetta, Mary, Ricardo, Tony, and Marcie held a dear place in her heart, as did her dear friends Louisa, Theresa, and Lina.
Carmela's life was marked by her loving, kind, and thoughtful nature. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing moments spent with her grandchildren and revelling in the company of her family and friends. Her interests reflected her generous spirit and her commitment to her loved ones.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shafiee, Dr. Berry, and the renal clinic, as well as the wonderful nurses on 3B for their compassionate care. Carmela's memory will be treasured by all who knew her, and her legacy of love will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
