Think Pink: Shoot for the Cure returns Jan. 13

The Algoma Thunderbirds basketball teams will be donning pink on Saturday, Jan. 13 in their annual Shoot for the Cure, Cancer Awareness basketball games, sponsored by the Algoma University Alumni Council. This year's event is in support of two staff members who are currently battling cancer, Albert Lucarelli and Karen Clarke.
 
The Cancer Awareness basketball games are part of the U Sports' annual Shoot for the Cure event, which aims to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research through the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Now in its 13th, year, the Shoot for the Cure campaign has raised over $1.1 million in donations! This year, for the seventh season in a row, all 47 U Sport basketball teams will be taking part in the fight against cancer.

Last season, the Algoma Thunderbirds raised over $7,200 for the Sault Ste. Marie Canadian Cancer Foundation.
 
Gate proceeds from Saturday evening games will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. Chuck-a-ball will also occur at half-time. Donations will also be accepted, with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The women take to the court at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m. on both evenings. Competition will be tough in the Brock Badgers.
