SOCIAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD

The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSMSSAB) will hold an election to select two (2) members to represent the Territory Without Municipal Organization (TWOMO) for the Sault North Planning Area on Election Day, October 27, 2014.

Voting will be carried out using the “Vote by Mail” method. Voter kits were mailed in early October to all qualifying voters (people who live and/or own property in the Sault North).

Ballots must be returned via mail or dropped-off at the Algoma District School Board Education Centre at 644 Albert Street East, Sault Ste. Marie; on or before Election Day.

The Sault North Planning Area includes residents of Anderson, Archibald, Aweres, Dennis, Deroche, Duncan, Fenwick, Fisher, Gaudette, Havilland, Herrick, Hodgins, Home, Jarvis, Kars, Kincaid, LaVerendrye, Ley, Marne, Nicolet, Palmer, Peever, Pennefather, Rix, Ryan, Shields, Slater, Smilsky, Tilley, Tupper and Vankoughnet.

At the nomination deadline of Friday, September 12, 2014, Nomination Forms were confirmed from three (3) candidates eligible to run for election.

They are:

David S. Edgar - Tilley Township
Janet Gawne - Deroche Township
Eric Vanderburg - Aweres Township

The DSSMSSAB is responsible for managing the delivery of four (4) programs including Ontario Works, Community Child Care, Social Housing, and Emergency Medical Services for the DSSMSSAB catchment area including City of Sault Ste. Marie, Prince Township and the Sault North Planning Area.

Elected individuals will serve a four (4) year term of office commencing on January 1, 2014.

The DSSMSSAB Board is comprised of 9 elected officials:

6 Councillors from the City of Sault Ste. Marie (Appointed by Council)
1 Councillor from the Township of Prince and (Appointed by Council)
2 individuals elected from the Sault North Planning Board jurisdiction
