For the second year, The Water Tower Inn and the United Way have partnered in an attempt to raise $50,000 for the United Way Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District.

The BIG CUP Scramble draws on the 14-year history of the United Way's annual charity golf tournament, what was once the Mayor's Charity Golf Classic, and brings a fun new approach to the game.

“The bigger holes open up the game to all types of golfers, novice or expert, and makes for a fun day on the greens,” says JJ Hilsinger, proprietor and general manager of The Water Tower Inn. The paint-can-size holes are about double the diameter of a regular golf hole, making them a much more achievable target.

True to his reputation as an entrepreneur and visionary, JJ has inspired a committee of “dare-devils” dedicated to the purpose of the United Way to conceptualize a variety of tongue-in-cheek ways to carry the BIG CUP theme on the course and at the post-tournament awards buffet.

“The annual golf tournament has been very successful for the United Way Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District for 21 years. We're excited about the new direction the tournament is taking and are certain that it will appeal to both new and old golfers, and help us reach our $50,000 fundraising goal,” says Maureen Dodd, stakeholder relations and public affairs, United Way Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District.

The BIG CUP Scramble takes place on the greens of the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club Monday, June 18, 2018. Team registration is now open – Early Bird pricing is in effect until April 30. Register online here or call Maureen Dodd at the United Way: 705-256-7476, ext 216.

The Water Tower Inn is the presenting sponsor of the BIG CUP Scramble. Rogers Media (KISS 100.5 and Country 104.3) is the media sponsor while Cliffe Printing is the design and printing sponsor.
