Women's Hockey League report

After a couple weeks off due to the holidays, the WHL was back in action for week nine and fans weren't disappointed. Fans that were in attendance were treated to a shutout and 3 tight scoring, action packed games. Thessalon – 2 vs.

After a couple weeks off due to the holidays, the WHL was back in action for week nine and fans weren't disappointed. Fans that were in attendance were treated to a shutout and 3 tight scoring, action packed games.

Thessalon – 2 vs. BDO Dunwoody – 4

Scoring for BDO was Melissa Holder (2), Cat Schryer and Elaine DeRosario. Picking up assists was Holder, Schryer and Kristie Kernahgen.

Algoma Ins. – 8 vs. B&J Trucking – 1

Algoma Ins. came out strong in the first period and never looked back. Scoring for Algoma was Wendy Basawa who picked up a hat trick, Denise Goldade (2), Robyn Bourck (2), and Julie Laforce. Picking up assists were Lisa Pauloff (2), Bourck (2), Basawa and Laforce. B&J battled hard the whole game; unfortunately the score didn't reflect their efforts. Scoring the lone goal for B&J was Natalie Barry, assisted by Joanne Pine.

BDO Dunwoody – 5 vs. Sports Gold – 3

In game that seemed to go either way, BDO started things off in the first period scoring 2 unanswered goals. Scoring for BDO was Elaine DeRosario and Jennifer Greco, assisted by pick up player Chantal Anderson and Donna Smith. The second period was back and forth as the teams traded goals, with Sports Gold picking up 3 in the period. Scoring for BDO was DeRosario, and Kristie Kernaghen, assisted by Anderson and Sara McCabe. Scoring for Sports Gold was Debbie Desgagne (2), and Sabrina Fischer, the lone assist went to goalie Teri Bonnell. Up one going into the third period BDO sealed victory when Greco scored her second of the game, assisted by Kernaghen.

Skip's Kweok – 3 vs. Brookfield Power – 1

Brookfield Power scored first came out firing in the first period, as Lori Ballstadt fired one passed Skip's Karen Armstrong to put them early. Assisting on the goal was Shannon Jackson. Brookfield's goalie Lorie Springall came up with some outstanding saves to help keep her team in the game. Skip's attack came from 3 different players, and was just too much for Brookfield. Skip's scorers were Cheri Sewell, Leslie Bois, and Julie Hodkinson. Picking up assists were Mona Jones (2), Leah-Anne Pine and Bois.

Crawford's Canines – 3 vs. White Oak Paint – 0

White Oak Paint fought hard from beginning to end, but just couldn't solve Crawford's goaltender, Melissa Holder who was on the top of her game. Scoring for Crawford's was Shelli Ubriaco, and beginners Tanya Thompson, and Paula Thompson. Ubriaco (2), Kathleen McLean, Karen Bell, and Debbie Gallagher picked up assists.

Source for Sports -2 vs. Ont. Concrete – 4

Source scored first when Stacy Boville snapped one passed Ont. Concrete's Cheri Taylor, unassisted. Boville's goal put Source up 1-0 going in to the second period. Source continued their scoring in the second when Heidi Haldemann scored one of her own, assisted by Patti Lutz. Ont. Concrete had an answer of their own scoring twice in the period to tie things up at 2. Scoring for Ont. Concrete was Nicole Beauchamp (2) assisted by Debbie Beauchamp (2). Starting the third period off the way the finished the second, Ont. Concrete scored twice to hand source their first loss of the season. Scoring for Ont. Concrete was D. Beauchamp and Nancy Pedatella. Picking up assists were Pedatella, Gerri Miller and Trish Secondi.
