Educated consumers are starting to recognize the importance of giving their business to companies that give back to the communities in which they operate. As a result, business leaders are focusing their corporate social responsibility strategies on initiatives that have significant and lasting impact on both their employees and the greater community.

AIM Recycling is one such company that understands the value of giving back. As an international organization with over 135 recycling facilities worldwide, AIM Recycling has donated millions throughout the communities it serves, contributing to such valuable locally focused causes as healthcare, education, child and youth, and food securities. The greater Sault Ste. Marie community also continues to benefit from the generosity of AIM Recycling; with the Thanksgiving season upon us, the local AIM Recycling  has recently made two significant donations to local charities: $5,000 to Algoma Family Services, and another $5,000 to the Soup Kitchen.

“Our goal is to provide whatever support we can to the community we operate in, because we are family owned and family run,” said Corey Cooper, AIM Recycling  Director of Marketing for Ontario and USA.  “That’s how we continue to develop as a company. It’s not just about buying, processing and selling scrap metal. It’s about relationships, about giving back, and about building strong connections in the community.”

The donations come at a critical time as Thanksgiving is second only to the holiday season in terms of need at food banks and other organizations that support individuals and families.

“I would like to thank AIM Recycling for their continued generosity and support,” said Ron Sims, spokesperson for the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen. “Their very generous donation will allow us to once again serve all our guests the traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings along with a package of hygiene products. Thank you AIM Recycling, for helping to put a smile on all of guests faces.”

According to Cooper, AIM Recycling chose Thanksgiving to assist the two local charities because economic challenges and high interest rates have made it hard for many individuals and families in the area.

“In times like these it’s important to take some of the money that we’ve received from recycling metal and invest it back into the community where it can help those we work with and live alongside,” said Cooper. “Especially in Sault Ste. Marie where we see a large need for family and food security. By focusing on the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen and Algoma Family Services we can ensure the support goes to those that are in need and the money stretches as far through the community as possible.”

Cooper said that working for a company that has established a culture of giving back also has a positive impact on the employees. Such corporate strategies can also have a positive impact on the community at large; people who choose to recycle their metals with AIM Recycling  can do so knowing that a portion of the money the company makes finds it ways back to helping the community.

To ensure their corporate generosity continues into the holiday season, AIM Recycling  is launching another program November 1st that will see customers who sell their metal to AIM Recycling  become eligible to win $150 grocery gift cards to help ease financial burden during the holiday season.

"This Thanksgiving, we are reminded of the importance of compassion and community,” said Kelvin Nesbit, AIM Recycling  Site Manager. “By donating to the soup kitchen and Algoma Family Services, we aim to provide support to those in need. It’s our way of giving back and ensuring that everyone can enjoy the spirit of the season."
