MacLennan qualifies for Canada Winter Games

Richard MacLennan, 15, of the Sault Ste. Marie Speed Skating Club placed fourth among Ontario male competitors aged 14 to 19 in a qualifying Canada Cup 1 Long Track Speed Skating competition at Calgary's Olympic Oval this past weekend.

MacLennan had to place in the top four Ontario skaters to be part of the speed skating team that will represent Ontario in the 2007 Canada Winter Games being held in Whitehorse, Yukon, February 24-March 3.

Placing third and also qualifying is 17 year-old Spencer Zettler, formerly of the Sault Speed Skating Club but now residing in Ottawa, attending school and training full time in Calgary. Zettler now skates for the Gloucester Speed Skating Club in Ottawa.

The Canada Winter Games is conducted in an Olympic-style format.
