Local swimmers diving into regional competition this weekend

A total of 64 local athletes will be representing Sault Ste. Marie this weekend as part of the first Northeastern Ontario Regional swim meet of the season at the John Rhodes Community Centre pool.

The event runs today and tomorrow and features swimmers from across the region, including Sudbury, North Bay, Kapuskasing, Sturgeon Falls, Kirkland Lake and Temiskaming Shores.

The swimmers will be looking for personal best times as well as qualifying standards for regional and provincial championships meets.

The John Rhodes pool will also be hosting the Northeastern Ontario Regional Dave Kensit Memorial Championships In February 2025

Last weekend Sault Surge team members raced in a time trial trial during their regular Saturday morning practice time slot and 27  athletes qualified for the Kensit meet.

Racing  for this weekend's meet kicked off at 11 a.m. for swimmers aged 13 and over and will begin at 4 p.m. for swimmers aged 12 and under.

Racing resumes on Sunday with the swimmers aged 13 and over starting at 9 a.m. while the swimmers aged 12 and under race at 1 p.m.
