Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre in Sault Ste. Marie is playoff-bound at the latest Grand Slam of Curling Event, the Elite 10.
The Jacobs rink, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, will face Glenn Howard Saturday in quarter-final action at the match-play style event.
The winner will face Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen in one semifinal on Saturday evening.
The Jacobs rink finished the round robin with a 2-2 record. The team recorded wins over 2018 Olympic champ John Shuster and Canadian Jason Gunnlaugson while dropping decisions to McEwen and Calgary’s Kevin Koe.
Saturday’s other quarter-final will see Brad Gushue of St. John’s face the winner of a tie-breaker game between Toronto’s John Epping and Sweden’s Niklas Edin.
Koe also earned an automatic berth in the semifinal in addition to McEwen.
The Elite 10 features the top 10 men’s curling teams based on the World Curling Tour rankings.
Teams play four round robin games in a match-play format with the top six teams moving on to the playoffs.
