The short staffed Soo Greyhounds saw victory slip away to defeat.

On Friday night in Mississauga, the Greyhounds opened up a 3-0 lead in the second period only to see the hometown IceDogs rally for a 5-3 win.

The loss kicked off a three games in three nights road trip that will lead the Hounds into the holiday break.

After Cody Thornton scored the lone goal of the first period to give the Hounds, who dressed 17 skaters, a 1-0 lead, first rounder James Livingston scored his second of the year and Josh Godfrey added another on the power play for a 3-0 lead 10:38 into the second period.

The IceDogs stormed back and before the period was out, Michael Swift and Andrew Merritt beat Greyhound goaltender Kyle Gajewski to cut the lead to 3-2.

In the third period, former Hound Chris Lawrence tied the game at the 4:16 before Team Canada cut Cody Bass scored the game winner with 3:26 remaining in regulation time. Alex Pietrangelo added an empty net goal.

Gajewski faced 36 shots in the loss while the Greyhounds fired 33 shots at the IceDogs.

The Greyhounds continue their trip on Saturday night in Belleville and Sunday in Kitchener.
