The Korah Colts junior football team is looking to three-peat as northern Ontario champions.

The Colts took a step toward that goal on Thursday night thanks to a 20-0 win over the St. Mary’s Knights in the city championship game at Superior Heights.

After a scoreless opening quarter, Korah got on the board first late in the opening half as Gevin Grisdale hit Lukis Joy-Stoycheff with a pass and the latter ran the ball in for a 58-yard touchdown to give the Colts a 6-0 lead.

Korah extended the lead in the third quarter as Joy-Stoycheff ran the ball in from 42-yards out for a touchdown. The convert on the play from Ryder Strachen made it a 13-0 game.

Logan Lajunen added to the Korah lead in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard touchdown run. The convert by Strachen made the score 20-0.

Joy-Stoycheff had 132 yards rushing on 17 carries in addition to catching a pair of passes for 78 yards in the victory.

Lajunen added 75 yards rushing in the win on 14 carries.

Defensively, Michael Marshall had four tackles and a fumble recovery for Korah.

The Knights got 5.5 tackles from Wesley Tait while Dominic Cavaliere and Brady Stevens added five tackles each defensively for the Knights.

The Colts will face Sudbury’s city champ in Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics play on Oct. 16.
