BLACK KNIGHT AT LAIRD

A season high crowd at Laird spent a long night at the track but Terry McClelland wasn't about to complain.

Known as the Black Knight, the super late model division points leader at Laird International Raceway jumped into the lead early in the feature race and blew away from the pack to win the feature race on Thursday night.

Brent Palumbo looked good in earlier action by winning both heat races but was eliminated from the feature race in the early laps.

In the super stock class, Jerry Artuso built a big lead in the feature race and would cruise to the chequered flag. The leader heading in, George Wilson, won the opening heat while David Archibald won the second heat.

Wilson is in a tight battle with Rob Sartini for first. Sartini trailed by just nine points heading in while both drivers are more than 100 points ahead of the competition.

The factory stock class remains the most wide-open division with several racers still in the hunt for the points title. Jason Praysner blew away the field in the feature. David Slingsby won heats one and three while Rick Mariotti won the second heat and division leader Parker Brockelbank captured the fourth heat.

In the crash and bash pure stock division, Josh Ware won the feature while heat races were won by Norm Miller and Barry Glenn.

Heat winners in the four-cylinder class were Kevin Vaz and Jamie Littleton. The feature was postponed due to a noise curfew in effect for the track. A double feature will be held next week as a make-up.

Action for the season high crowd of 2,549 was delayed as Brett Jackson was involved in a scary crash during the late model time trials.

Jackson, a Sault native who has spent the last several years in Barrie, was making his return to the local racing scene. Jackson flew into the tire barricade in turn three after his throttle stuck. It is believed the accident may totally write off the car.

Action continues at Laird next Thursday with time trials beginning at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
