Algoma takes two from Mohawk

Algoma Thunderbirds Sweep Mohawk College

The Algoma U Thunderbird Women's Basketball team started the second half of their regular season with a victory over the Mohawk College Mountaineers.

The Thunderbirds defeated the Mountaineers with a score of 69 to 31. Top scorers for Algoma University College were Danielle D'Ettorre with a 38 points and Melissa Stumpo with 8. Jessica King and Lara Stilin added 7 points each. Top scorer for Mohawk College was Carrie Lawton with 9 points.

The Algoma U Men's basketball team had a much closer game against the Mohawk College Men's team. The Thunderbird Men's team trailed Mohawk by 14 points at the half. They started the second half with a 15 to 2 run and eventually beat Mohawk by a score of 80 to 76.

Top scorer for Algoma was Andrew Turgeon with 28 points which included six three pointers all in the second half. Patrick Murray had 17 points and Ariel Baptiste added 16. The top scorer for Mohawk was Igor Trbojevic with 19 points.

The Algoma U Men's team has an exhibition game tomorrow against Rochester College (Michigan) at 1 pm in the George Leach Centre.

The Men's team then plays Sault College next Wednesday, January 17th at Sault College in a regular season game. The Women's Thunderbird team resumes regular season play next Friday on the road against Sheridan College.
