Bobby Baun, who scored the winning goal for Toronto in Game 6 of the 1964 Stanley Cup finals on a foot broken by a Gordie Howe slap shot, will be in Sault Ste. Marie later this month.

The four-time Stanley Cup winner will be at the John Rhodes Community Centre on April 28 for a public meeting about hearing awareness at 7 p.m.

Baun's visit is sponsored by Widex Canada, manufacturer of the Senso Diva digital hearing aid that he wears.

The following is excerpted from Widex publicity material:

******************* Hearing loss affects upwards of two million Canadians.

One well-known Canadian suffering hearing loss is talking about it publicly in an effort to increase awareness of this debilitating problem.

Former Toronto Maple Leaf great Bobby Baun has been travelling across Canada participating in interviews about hearing loss and hearing awareness.

Baun, a four-time Stanley Cup winner in a 17-year NHL career has suffered from a relatively severe hearing loss for the past 20 years.

In recent years his hearing impairment had begun to interfere with his business life and the many public appearances he enjoyed making.

Like many persons with hearing loss, Bob Baun suffered years of growing frustration and isolation before finally seeking help.

He is now wearing a pair of the newest generation of digital hearing aids and his quality of life has improved greatly.

Bob is prepared to discuss his own hearing loss and offer his advice to the estimated 2.4 million Canadians who probably have hearing loss and who are not getting it treated.

Bobby usually is accompanied by a local audiologist or hearing health professional who could discuss hearing health issues, and could demonstrate a hearing test using portable equipment.

The tour is being sponsored by Widex Canada, manufacturer of the Senso Diva high definition digital hearing aid Bobby wears.

The goal of the campaign is to educate the market through increased awareness of the extent of the hearing loss problem in Canada and to de-bunk misconceptions about use of any hearing device.
