The deep freeze this past weekend will give way to warmer-than-normal air for Christmas. The good news is that we have a trace of new snow early in the week for Santa's arrival late Tuesday night. The warm air will linger into the final days of 2024, with colder air expected to start 2025.
Snow Monday morning will taper off later in the morning and end in the afternoon with 8-12cm of accumulation. The heaviest snow will be east of the city along the North Channel and St. Joseph Island. Daytime highs will climb to near the freezing mark.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with afternoon temperatures near -4°C. Skies will become partly cloudy for Santa with a light southeast wind to help the reindeer.
Christmas Day will be mostly cloudy, with a few sunny breaks and daytime highs of +1°C.
Boxing Day and Friday will remain mostly cloudy, but a southerly wind will push temperatures to +3°C. The warmer-than-normal temperatures will continue this weekend, but we could see rain or wet snow on Saturday.
