Afternoon crash on Wellington closes westbound lane

There was extensive damage to the front end of one of the vehicles involved in the collision

A section of Wellington Street West was closed to westbound traffic Thursday afternoon while emergency services responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two cars.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were on scene by about 4:10 p.m. Thursday to attend a collision in the westbound lane of Wellington Street West, just past Gloucester Street.

There was extensive front end damage to the rear vehicle, while the frontmost car showed only slight damage to its rear.

Paramedics attended to both drivers, while firefighters performed an environmental response by pouring sand on some fluids that were escaping the rear vehicle. The driver of the front vehicle was treated in the nearby ambulance by paramedics, but was able to walk to it under their own power.

SooToday will have more on this incident as information becomes available.
