Weekend Outlook: Losing our snow now?

In early February of 2012, we were down to just a few centimetres of snow, much like we will experience in the days ahead

It's been over ten years since the Sault area had this little snow in the first week of February. Eight of those winters had at least 50cm for the last 10 years at this time of year. Only in 2015 and 2016 there was a dip to 20cm in early February of those years. Then there's 2012....

In early February of 2012, we were down to just a few centimetres of snow - much like we will experience in the days ahead. However, temperatures back then were just a degree or two above freezing. The days ahead show us possibly climbing ten degrees warmer than normal, meaning our snow could be gone entirely in a week.

It is supposed to cool off for the end of this month. Odds are that we will have little to no snow left, and if it's like 2012, we'll deal with traces of snow between now and an early Spring.

Friday will be mostly sunny, but a cool morning means daytime highs will only reach +1°C. Mostly sunny skies continue for Saturday and Sunday, with afternoon temperatures climbing to +3°C.

This coming week will see temperatures on a gradual climb that will take them to nearly 10 degrees warmer than normal by week's end. The next chance of precipitation arrives on Friday, which could help melt the last remaining areas of snow.
