Winter officially arrives at 4:21 a.m. on Saturday, along with the coldest temperatures of this month. The mercury will plummet Friday night and land near -20°C on Saturday morning for the first day of winter. However, this cold snap will be short-lived as daytime highs climb towards the end of the weekend and keep going up as we head towards Santa's big day.
Friday will be mostly cloudy, with a few sunny breaks this afternoon as temperatures reach -4°C. The much colder air arrives Saturday, with daytime highs only reaching -13°C under mostly sunny skies.
Clouds slowly move back into the region on Sunday as temperatures creep up to -4°C, but a southerly breeze will bring windchill values near -10.
There is a chance of light snow on Monday, but daytime highs will climb towards freezing as we approach Christmas by midweek.
