Premier Doug Ford held a press conference today at 11 a.m. to announce 10 million dollars, over three years, to help "Identify, investigate, protect and commemorate," Indian Residential School burial sites.
The premier said the investigations will be Indigenous-led and focused on meaningful work to help those who are living with the legacy of the residential schools.
Ford was joined by Greg Rickford, Minister of Indigenous Affairs, and Indigenous leaders including Brent Tookenay, CEO of Seven Generations Education Institute (SGEI), Elder Howard Copenace of Naotkamegwanning (Whitefish Bay First Nation), Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh, Grand Council Treaty #3, Theresa Stenlund, Councilor Region 1 of the Métis Nation of Ontario and Chief Mark B. Hill, Six Nations of the Grand River.
