Supplied bio: Matthew was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie.

Locally, he attended Notre-Dame-des-Écoles elementary school, St. Mary’s College high school, then obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History at Algoma University.

After earning his undergrad degree at Algoma U, he attended the University of Ottawa where he obtained his law degree.

Committed to returning home, he pursued employment opportunities exclusively at Sault Ste. Marie law firms.

Matthew was fortunate enough to be offered a position at the Wishart Law Firm, where he's worked as a lawyer since 2012.

Matthew has been involved in local politics for over 10 years.

He's campaigned for municipal, provincial and federal candidates, and politics has always been a passion of his.

While at the University of Ottawa Matthew did committee and constituent work on Parliament Hill for two MPs and one Senator.

Having returned to Sault Ste. Marie after being gone for a number of years, Matthew has seen where Sault Ste. Marie has made good progress, and he has also seen the immense opportunity that the City has to offer.

He believes that this opportunity can be better harnessed by a municipal council with vision.

That is why he is running.

Matthew believes that giving back to his community is one of the most important things he can do for all the opportunity that this City has offered him.

He's committed to pursuing a progressive agenda in order to improve the quality of life in our community, the affordability of living in our community, and the connection that residents feel with City Hall.

Matthew believes that if Council can achieve realistic, but aggressive, goals with respect to encouraging local development, promoting business and growth opportunities in the private sector, and, as a result, increasing our population, then the upcoming term of council can be a success.

He looks forward to the campaign and to meeting Ward 3 residents at their doorsteps.

Matthew is engaged to Jenna Ward, and they are planning their wedding for the fall of 2015.
