VIDEO: First-ever Puck Drop rings in early new year for Sault's young ones

A second dropping of the puck will be held at midnight to ring in 2025

An early celebration of New Year's Eve was concluded at 8 p.m. Tuesday with the first-ever Puck Drop at the Downtown Plaza.

About 1,000 people were in attendance for the early New Year's celebration, which included ice skating, games, food and drink and live performances.

"It's really been a great night, pulled off fabulously by our sponsors and staff," said Mayor Matthew Shoemaker after the 8 p.m. Puck Drop.

The inaugural New Year's Eve Puck Drop was held at 8 p.m. to allow for people with young children to celebrate the new year with the dropping of an illuminated puck suspended by a crane about 80 feet above the Village Media stage at the Downtown Plaza.

A second dropping of the puck will be held at midnight to ring in 2025.
