Faculty, staff, and students of Algoma University are busy making campus spooky for the sixth annual Algoma U Community Trick or Treat Night taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 4 – 7 p.m.

The annual event has grown in popularity and has seen an increase in participants over the past five years. Last year over 2,800 people attended the Community Trick or Treat. 42,000 pieces of candy were handed out and $4,807 was raised for the United Way.

“This is a wonderful community event for our families to enjoy Hallowe’en in a safe and fun setting while at the same time supporting the United Way. It is our pleasure to welcome our community’s youngest trick or treaters onto the University campus for a spooktacular evening,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Asima Vezina.

Families are encouraged to dress in costume and trick or treat around the University’s spooktacular campus, where they will have the opportunity to fill their bags with goodies and treats. This year, over 20 stations will be decorated around campus.

The first-ever Community Trick or Treat was held in 2012 as part of the University’s United Way campaign.

Participants will start at Door W (the door located at the bottom floor of the Wishart Library – behind the West Wing sign – near the entrance to the main parking lot), where they will receive a map to guide them through the campus.

This event is open only to children 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult. Admission is by monetary donation to the United Way and a non-perishable food item to the Algoma University Food Pantry.

After trick or treating, participants are invited to enjoy refreshments in The Speakeasy. For only $2, members can enjoy a hot dog or pizza by the slice and a drink. Free parking will be provided.
