Recruiting new doctors to the Sault remains a top priority — and the city now has a new point person on the file.

Tasha Varpio of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation has been appointed the city’s manager of physician recruitment and retention. 

“Tasha’s success in building strong relationships within the medical field and her passion for our region’s healthcare will be instrumental in helping us attract and retain top physicians,” says Mayor Matthew Shoemaker, chair of the Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee. “We are confident that her expertise and dedication will help us enhance healthcare quality and access for all residents of Sault Ste. Marie.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Tasha Varpio as Manager of Physician Recruitment and Retention.

In this role, Varpio will lead the Sault Ste. Marie Physician Recruitment and Retention Program, providing strategic leadership and support in addressing the community’s physician human resource needs, such as identifying current and future physician vacancies, anticipating retirements and ensuring the attraction and retention of top medical professionals to meet the healthcare needs of the Sault.

Varpio has extensive experience, strong community ties, and a deep commitment to enhancing healthcare in our region. In her current role with the Sault Area Hospital Foundation, she has built strong professional relationships with local physicians, collaborating with them on critical initiatives. Her expertise in targeted marketing strategies and brand development will play a pivotal role in attracting and retaining top-tier physicians for our community. Varpio’s significant managerial experience includes serving on the New Hospital Committee, as a publisher of a magazine, and working in human resources at the Sault Area Hospital. These roles have given her the skills and insight to address the community’s unique physician recruitment challenges and contribute to the success of our healthcare sector.

Driven by a passion for community well-being, she is committed to helping Sault Ste. Marie attract and retain highly skilled physicians.
