A proposal for a dome covering the sports field at Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School fell flat at tonight's meeting of city council.

As SooToday reported last week, Algoma District School Board (ADSB) had asked the city to apply for provincial funding for the dome and a new rubberized running track because it was itself ineligible to apply.

But Ward 3 Coun. Angela Caputo, who was listed as mover of the motion, withdrew her name.

No other seconder could be found so the proposal for municipal assistance collapsed.

Neighbours of the athletic field expressed concern about whether the proposed dome and new track would fit on the property.

Proposals for new high-security bike shelters and a $350,000 self-cleaning washroom at Clergue Park also failed on tied votes.

Councillors did vote in favour of reviewing the existence, coverage area and promotional efforts of the Downtown Association.

SooToday will have further coverage of these four stories.
