NEWS RELEASE
ST. VINCENT PLACE
*************************
Now that the snow is starting to fall, many of us are starting to get into the holiday spirit, and that often means thinking about ways to help the less fortunate.
St. Vincent Place has the perfect opportunity to make a difference in the community year-round.
We are currently seeking teams of volunteers to help in our soup kitchen for Wednesday’s 5 p.m. dinners. If you’re not familiar with how our soup kitchen works, here’s a breakdown:
Each meal that is served in our soup kitchen is planned, purchased, prepared, and served by one of our volunteer teams. Each team takes its turn serving about every six weeks (but this depends on the number of teams we have – the more teams there are, the less often each one serves), and the cost of each meal averages about $150.
The meals our current teams offer tend to be comfort food: pasta and meatballs, roasted pork loin, or meatloaf with bread, rice, or potatoes and vegetables are some of the more popular meals. Nothing fancy is needed, just a hearty meal to help fill the bellies of those in need.
Some of our teams are made up of business owners and employees, others are church groups, while others are simply groups of friends, family, or neighbours. As long as you have at least six like-minded people, you can form a soup kitchen team!
We make up the team schedule for a full year in advance, so we just ask that teams commit to one year of serving (which could mean as few as six meals over the year).
If you have any questions, would like to see a team in action, or want to sign up, contact Sara at 705-253-2770 ext. 4 or [email protected]
