Residents can expect warmer than normal temperatures to finish off March break and start the weekend, according to a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada.
Cloud coverage will vary throughout the week, with mainly cloudy skies and possible flurries today, Geoff Coulson said.
Partly cloudy skies tonight will lead to a sunny morning on Thursday with increasing cloud cover in the afternoon.
“We’re expecting a daytime high on Thursday of 6 C, which is warmer than our normal high for this time of year, which is 1 C,” Coulson said.
Even milder weather is anticipated for Friday and Saturday with daytime highs around 10 C.
Wind conditions are expected to remain light until Friday when they could increase to 30 to 40 km/h from the southeast ahead of Saturday’s system.
A Colorado low is expected to bring showers and possible thunderstorms to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday.
“When that system goes by to the east Saturday night into Sunday morning, we’re going to see temperatures drop off pretty quickly back to more seasonal values,” Coulson said.
Sunday’s high will be around 1 C, with a chilly start to the week on Monday morning at -13 C.
While no weather advisories or warnings are currently in effect, Coulson said statements about potential rainfall amounts for Saturday may be issued late Thursday or Friday.
