Police say man arrested in Canada after serious incident in Sault, Mich.

A spokesperson for the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says a 23-year-old man was taken into custody at 9:30 a.m. in regards to a serious incident in the United States.

9and10news.com in Michigan is reporting that a man fled the U.S. this morning after allegedly robbing a gas bar in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. and kidnapping a store clerk.

The incident at the Admiral gas in Sault, Mich. occurred around 2:40 a.m. this morning, reported 9and10news.com 

The man was armed with a gun, said 9and10 news, and allegedly stole gas, cash and cigarettes.

The man dropped the clerk off before crossing the International Bridge into Canada, the site reported.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service deferred all additional information, including the nationality of the suspect, to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department.

A call for comment from the sheriff’s department was not immediately returned.
