A man has been charged with negligent driving leading to the death of Sault Ste. Marie's Marnie Scott in a crash in Kanchanaburi, Thailand on Saturday.
The Bangkok Post is reporting police are contemplating other charges against the 23-year-old driver of a speeding pickup truck.
Scott, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, CTN News said.
She was cycling with her husband Joe Scott, changing lanes on a ring road in preparation for a U-turn, police told the news service.
The driver "blasted his horn and expected the cyclist to allow his truck to pass," The Thaiger stated.
"He added he couldn’t apply the brakes fast enough to avoid crashing into the woman’s bicycle."
Marnie and Joe Scott founded Victory Bible Academy in Mae Sot, Thailand, a ministry of Christian Freedom International and Growth and Opportunity Foundation of Thailand.
The missionary pair are avid cyclists and fitness enthusiasts.
The crash occurred about 500 kilometres south of Mae Sot, as they were vacationing in Kanchanaburi, home to the famous Kwai River Bridge.
Their daughters, Maija and Kiera, were travelling with them but weren't present during the crash.
A celebration of Marnie Scott's life was held Tuesday morning (Thailand time) at the Saman Smat Khee Church in Mae Sot.
"Wear bright colours!" said the invitation.
"She wouldn't want us to be gloomy. There will be tears but we are going to celebrate her with loving memories."
"Marnie has been laid to rest," Joe said.
"Her legacy is love and it will live on in so many hearts."
