If James Borrelli appears to be in some kind of Zen-like state of higher consciousness in this photograph, blame it on the fact that we snapped him sometime well after midnight in the middle of Rocky DiPietro Field behind the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Borrelli was actually playing a little pick-up volleyball with friends at the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay For Life.

The 12-hour, overnight, non-competitive event that involved teams of 10 that took turns walking or running around the track.

Check out the photo gallery at the bottom of this article to see some other nice people we met very early this morning.

Relay For Life is one of the Cancer Society's largest fundraisers.

"All proceeds collected go to cancer research," said Lorena Tridico, corporate chair of this year's event. "The Cancer Society of Sault Ste. Marie is highly organized and committed. I'm very honoured to be part of this team of tireless workers who donate so much of their time, and give so much to our community. Every year that I've been part of the Relay for Life, we see more and more Sault Ste. Marie residents taking part. The generosity of this community is tremendous. I think it's something that touches all people. Cancer affects us all, and the willingness to make a difference is what brings this community together."
