Both Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré and Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe have posted reminders to employers, students and other young people in their ridings, that now is the time to consider the importance of securing summer employment.
A summer job plays an important role in a young person’s life. It puts money in their pockets to help pay for education and living expenses, and allows them to learn new skills, build confidence, and explore their career interests.
That is why the Government of Canada supports the creation of thousands of meaningful summer jobs for youth each year through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, said a news release from Serré.
Employers who create jobs and provide student employment can qualify for wage subsidies.
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) provides wage subsidies to employers to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. Employers from not-for-profit organizations and the public sector, as well as private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees can qualify for the program, said a release from Lapointe.
The application period for employers to apply for subsidies is now open. The deadline for employers to apply to the summer job subsidy program is December 19, 2024.
Lapoint said the program is important in supporting the not-for-profit sector and small businesses while providing valuable work experience for young people.
"It’s a win-win. This important investment in our young people allows them to gain the skills, education and work experience they need to successfully transition into the workforce, while also supporting the economic prosperity of our community,” said Lapointe.
