If you were up at 4 a.m. this morning, you may have wondered why the city was laying salt down on some local roads.

A reader informed SooToday that the city was salting from Black Road to Airport Road after 4:20 a.m.

Dan Perri, director of public works with the City of Sault Ste. Marie, confirmed that the reader was not dreaming.

“Salt was applied last night as a precaution for potentially icy conditions,” Perri said by email.

“Staff patrol the roadway and select interventions based on current and forecasted weather to ensure safe driving conditions.”
