The following statement was issued today by Al Carfagnini, executive director of student affairs at Nipissing University.

Two Nipissing U students, Marc Caputo from Sault Ste. Marie and his girlfriend Melissa Fava, died over the weekend in a head-on collision on Highway 17 just west of North Bay.

************************* Nipissing University is deeply saddened by the tragic death of two of our students, killed in a car accident on Saturday, November 24.

The university community sends its sympathies and condolences to the families and friends of the two students.

To all of our current students and faculty and staff, the university recognizes that many of you will be grieving the loss of two students from our close-knit community and we are deeply sympathetic.

Nipissing University’s counsellors are available for any students requiring their assistance. Please contact the Student Affairs Office at 474-3450 x 4362.

Staff and faculty who wish to speak to a counsellor can also call the Employee Assistance Program at 1-800-263-1401.
