Melted porta-potties and damaged trucks remain after fire on CN property (17 photos)

The investigation of the Sunday night fire at Industrial Services & Waste Management has been passed on to CN Police Services

Melted and burned porta-potties and damaged vacuum trucks remained after a fire at Industrial Services & Waste Management on Canadian National Railway property.

After the incident, SSMFS took SooToday around the outside of the building.

Several large vacuum trucks, presumably used for waste disposal, had smashed windshields.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services (SSMFS) Platoon Chief Jim Beach said his crews were not responsible for the smashed windshields.

Blue liquid was seen covering the floor, ceiling, and objects inside the building.

Beach said those were sanitation chemicals used in the porta-potties.

A porta-potty in one of the garage areas had melted into a stump.

Beach said that several other pieces of unconstructed porta-potty had burned in the fire as well.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services were dispatched at 10:27 p.m. Sunday evening after a CN worker called them.

Beach said his department passed the investigation over to the Ontario Fire Marshal’s (OFM) office who have now passed it on to CN Police Services.

“The OFM said our crews did a good job containing the fire to one major part of the building. There was a lot of heat and smoke damage to the entire building but we contained the fire to one corner,” said Beach.

Four pump trucks and 18 firefighters were on scene at the time of the fire while more came in later to supervise the scene during the investigation process.

SSMFS left the scene at around 3:30 p.m. today.
