Major downtown fire blocks Queen Street East (video added, 11 photos)

Multiple SooToday readers have sent in photos from a fire on Queen Street East in the area of the GFL Memorial Gardens.

SooToday journalists will have more on this breaking situation as it unfolds.

The following was issued by city police:

Queen Street East CLOSED Due to Active Fire

At approximately 5:15 a.m. officers with The Sault Ste Marie Police Service and firefighters with Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a large fire at 224 Queen St. E. between Dennis Street and Bruce Street.

The fire fully engulfed the building and is not yet under control. The 200 block of Queen Street East is closed and we ask motorists and pedestrians to stay away from the area in order to allow crews with Fire Services to safely bring the fire under control.  

At this time no injuries have been reported and more information will be released when it becomes available.
