THUNDER BAY — The past year has been a year to remember for a Thunder Bay resident who believes in supporting hospital fundraising drives.
Matthew Baumann has just won the grand prize of $65,200 in a 50/50 fundraiser for the hospital in Chatham.
In March of last year, he also took home $475,000 in the Health Sciences North 50/50 in Sudbury.
"I've been participating in a number of hospital 50/50s as a way of giving back and supporting some great causes in communities across Ontario," Baumann said after his ticket came up in the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation's draw.
"When I got the call, I thought it must have been for one of the Early Birds, and I was shocked to learn I had won the grand prize."
Baumann plans to use part of his winnings for a trip to Europe this summer.
Proceeds from the Chatham 50/50 will be used to support the purchase of a new fluoroscopy machine for the local hospital.
It's a piece of imaging equipment that enables real-time X-ray guidance.
