The Sault Ste. Marie and District Homelessness Prevention Team (HPT) is the proud recipient of the Local Municipal Champion Award presented by the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association (OMSSA).
The Local Municipal Champion Award acknowledges Social Services’ teams from across the province, working in partnership with community organizations and/or initiatives, to advance excellence in human services integration and service system management.
The Homelessness Prevention Team (HPT) received formal recognition of their nomination and selection at the OMSSA Leadership Symposium in Thunder Bay in May.
The Sault Ste. Marie and District Homelessness Prevention Team (HPT) is comprised of staff from partnering community agencies including, Algoma Public Health, Canadian Mental Health Association, John Howard Society, Indigenous Friendship Centre, Ontario Disability Support Program, Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services, Pauline’s Place Non-Profit Homes, Sault Area Hospital, Social Services and St. Vincent Place.
Coordinated by the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Boards’ Housing Services division, the HPT provides a “Housing First” approach with wrap around services that include case management, mental health and addiction supports to those who are experiencing homelessness and those who are at risk of homelessness.
In 2018-19, the HPT provided 7,020 supports to those at risk of experiencing homelessness and 5,605 supports to those experiencing homelessness.
