Library can now lend you ultimate discs, and bike locks

If you bicycle to the library but forget your bike lock, they'll allow you to check out a lock for the day

Formerly known as ultimate frisbee, ultimate is a non-contact, self-refereed team sport played by teams with a flying disc.

Thanks to a donation from Sault Ultimate Players Association, Sault Ste. Marie Public Library card-holders may now borrow ultimate flying discs.

Twenty discs will be available to the public for three-week loans, the library's board was told this week by Matthew MacDonald, chief executive officer.

They've been added to the object library, a collection of items that go beyond typical book and media collections.

Sault Ste. Marie's object library includes snowshoes, urban walking poles, disc golf kits, children's build boxes, a thermal camera, digital radon kits and an external DVD drive.

One of Sault Ste. Marie Public Library's best-kept secrets is that if you bicycle to the library but forget your bike lock, they'll allow you to check out a lock for the day on your library card.

The library has recently received three passes to the John Rhodes Community Centre, each allowing as many as five people, regardless of household status, to access the pool during public swim times.

Those passes are available for one-week loans.

In other news, Sault Ste. Marie Public Library will launch a one-month membership campaign in September.

Each person who registers for a new library card, or who persuades someone else sign up, will be entered into a draw to win a $200 Station Mall gift certificate.

Smaller prizes will be available for second and third runners-up.
