NEWS RELEASE
SAULT STE MARIE PUBLIC LIBRARY
*************************
It is with heavy hearts and great reluctance that the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library Board announces that the Korah Branch will cease operations at the end of this year.

Established 1967 the Branch has been a fixture in the west end of our community. Originally located at 496 Second Line West, the Korah Branch moved to the newly built Northern Community Centre at 556 Goulais Avenue in 2012.

The Branch was reduced in size the summer of 2017 to accommodate the relocation of the Steelton Senior’s Centre. The two organizations worked together to make the space a welcoming community hub.

Over the past year the Library Board and staff have worked diligently to find a solution to continue operations of the Korah Branch given the limited resources at the Library’s disposal.

It was finally determined that the most efficient and responsible use of Library resources was to focus on the two remaining library locations, which overall have greater square footage for collections, meeting space and programming, and are more centrally located.

Korah Branch has a long history and will be missed by many.

The Board encourages the public to continue to use library services by visiting its two other locations, the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library located at 50 East St., and the newly opened North Branch, located at 232 C Northern Avenue, and by visiting online at www.ssmpl.ca.

The final day of operations for the Korah Branch will be Dec. 31, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
