A special Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board open session meeting, held virtually late Thursday afternoon, lasted a mere 22 minutes.

Trustees gathered online to discuss and vote on proposed changes to 13 procedure bylaws to the board’s Policy 1000.

However, a point of order raised by Sandra Turco, H-SCDSB trustee, cut the meeting short.

“I believe this meeting today is an improper procedure,” Turco told Gary Trembinski, H-SCDSB chair.

It was officially adjourned after Turco stated that rules require the board chair, vice-chair, at least one other trustee and the director of education be present in the H-SCDSB boardroom for virtual meetings.

Trembinski, though present at the virtual meeting, was not at the board office.

Fil Lettieri, H-SCDSB director of education, was also present at the virtual meeting, but viewed it from Toronto.

“I was not aware of the one electronic problem that we have and we have to deem this meeting as illegal then,” Trembinski said.

One of the 13 proposed changes on the agenda for Thursday applied to the annual election of a board chair and vice-chair.

Trembinski has served as chair for two years and his current term expires later this month.

John Bruno, H-SCDSB vice-chair, officially adjourned the meeting.

The board’s next regular meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13.
