8:33 a.m. update:
Firefighters remain on scene but the fire appears to be under control.
One person was home at the time of the fire but was helped from the home by firefighters, said next-door neighbour Shirley Depasquale.
"I couldn't believe it," said Depasquale, who watched from across the street with other neighbours as firefighters poured water through the home's roof.
Fire officials are just beginning their investigation.
“There was concern for the individual that was there, but he’s out,” said Deputy Chief Paul Milosevich by phone.
Milosevich said he was unaware at this time of any injuries.
No information is currently available as to the cause of the blaze or where it started.
A massive plume of brown smoke could be seen rising from the neighbourhood.
