A bulk carrier that had been anchored in Batchawana Bay is leaving on Tuesday morning after being there since Sunday.
The U.S. Coast Guard received a report that the Wilfred Sykes experienced issues on Lake Superior at approximately 5:35 p.m. Sunday. Crew aboard the 678-foot vessel contacted the crew of fleetmate Joseph L. Block for an escort and assistance with anchoring.
On Monday, the website boatnerd.com reported the Wilfred Sykes "lost power due to boiler issues while upbound on Lake Superior," and was initially towed to safe anchorage in Goulais Bay.
