Heavy demolition equipment meets snowbank near old hospital site

Sault Police closed both lanes of Queen Street at Kohler Street

A flatbed truck on its way to the old hospital site carrying heavy demolition equipment became wedged into one of the many over-full snowbanks Monday evening.

The truck was taking a wide turn onto Lucy Terrace sometime on Monday and found itself stuck with a payload consisting of a Liebherr 950 Demolition Litronic bearing the Green Infrastructure Partners logo and green livery.

It was observed immobilized by the snow bank contact at about 6:15 p.m. on Monday.

Sault Police closed both lanes of Queen Street at Kohler Street, causing some traffic headaches as traffic was redirected up to Wellington Street by way of Kohler or Simpson streets.

A second flatbed truck was parked on Queen Street, waiting for the road to clear. It carried the large arm that attaches to Liebherr 950 and a number of small front-end loaders.

Liebherr's web site lists the 950 Demolition Litronic as having an operating weight of up to 75,850 kilograms, with a working height of 29 metres and a reach of up to 16 metres.
