Issue may be widespread

An issue with health cards has closed at least one local walk-in clinic today.

Westend Walk-in Clinic closed its doors this morning after issues with the software it uses to process and validate health card information

The clerk at the clinic said she has been in touch both with the software provider and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and has been told the issue is being worked on.

“It’s disappointing because we’ve never had this issue,” said Alicia Smith, the clinic’s clerk.

She said she understands the issue affects other clinics in Ontario as well.

Those who have been turned away have been advised to go to hospital.

SooToday has contacted a Ministry of Health spokesperson and will update this story with further information when it is available.

Smith said patients with questions about the closure can call her at 705-450-5339.

The Second Line clinic is normally open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-3 p.m.
